The Qatar Diamond Exchange has been officially admitted as a member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, according to an announcement carried by Qatar News Agency. Qatar Diamond Exchange Director Ghanim Nasser Al Saadi said the membership reflected international recognition of the exchange’s trading standards and governance, placing it alongside the world’s leading diamond trading centers. Al Saadi added that the federation’s decision followed its assessment of the exchange’s operations, standards and workforce, while the World Federation of Diamond Bourses has nominated Qatar to host its 2027 Presidents’ Meeting.

Mehul Shah, president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, stated that the federation was delighted to welcome the Qatar Diamond Exchange as a member. Shah noted that Qatar has real potential in diamonds with a friendly business-first policy environment, strong buying power and an excellent geographical location. The WFDB president wished the exchange every success and expressed anticipation for the 2027 Presidents’ Meeting in Qatar.

The exchange said membership represented recognition by the world’s diamond bourses and marked its entry into the federation’s global network. According to the exchange, the status grants companies trading through the QDE reciprocal recognition across member bourses, access to the federation’s arbitration framework and assurance that transactions follow the WFDB Code of Conduct. The federation, founded in 1947 and now with approximately 30 member bourses according to its website, unites major diamond trading centers under common rules.

Qatar has participated in the global diamond ecosystem since 2021, when the state joined the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme as a full participant, Qatar News Agency reported. The exchange’s recent admission to the World Diamond Council, which represents the global diamond industry in that scheme, further supports its alignment with international standards. With both memberships the platform operates in line with the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties and the WFDB Code of Conduct.

The Qatar Diamond Exchange said the membership builds a new trade bridge to the industry’s principal markets and opens a new sector for Qatar in line with the country’s National Vision 2030. The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers describes that vision as seeking sustainable economic prosperity through diversification, responsible resource management and private sector growth. Financial experts cited by Qatar News Agency indicated the platform would attract international traders and investment while creating opportunities for local businesses.

Industry analyst Paul Zimnisky reported that global natural diamond supply declined to approximately 100 million carats in 2025, the lowest level since 1992, with a slight recovery projected for 2026. The exchange operates as a single regulated platform at Ras Bufontas Free Zone adjacent to Hamad International Airport. Its facilities include a secure trading floor, private negotiation suites, an institutional-grade vault with 24-hour on-site security, plus on-site customs and Kimberley Process certification services.
