The invitation to Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani came during a meeting in Doha between Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli and representatives from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, according to the Gulf Times. Mohamad Mourad, vice president for international relations at the Brazilian chamber, and Rafael Solimeo, director of its international office, handed the request to al-Obaidli while discussing ways to deepen economic links between Qatar and Brazil. The forum will explore opportunities for private sector partnerships across the Arab world and Latin America, building on more than seven decades of work by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce to foster commercial exchanges.
Discussions during the Tuesday meeting centred on the roles of the two chambers in promoting bilateral trade and investment, the Gulf Times reported. Participants examined a roadmap to expand cooperation in food security and food industries, areas where Brazilian exports have supported Qatar’s efforts to diversify supply chains. Al-Obaidli highlighted the strong existing relations between the two countries and affirmed Qatar Chamber’s commitment to encouraging joint ventures that could lift trade volumes in the coming years.
The fifth edition of the Arab-Brazilian Economic Forum carries the theme “The Global Economy in Transformation: A New Agenda between Brazil and the Arab Countries,” Mourad noted in the Gulf Times account. Organised jointly with the Union of Arab Chambers and under the auspices of the League of Arab States, the event aims to consolidate business relations and open new channels for private sector collaboration. Previous editions since 2016 have drawn thousands of attendees, with the last gathering attracting around 3,000 participants and 50 speakers from 12 countries, according to the forum’s official site.
Data compiled by the Market Intelligence department of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce placed Brazil’s exports to Arab countries at $21.34 billion in 2025, even after a 9.81 percent decline from the prior year’s record. Total trade flow between Brazil and the 22 Arab League members reached $31.2 billion that year, with key products including sugar, chicken meat, corn and iron ore. The chamber’s figures show the relationship has grown substantially from $5.5 billion in 2003 to peaks above $25 billion in subsequent years, underscoring the potential for further expansion in sectors such as agriculture and food processing.
Qatar has increasingly turned to Brazilian suppliers to bolster its food security, particularly for poultry and other staples, following disruptions that prompted broader supplier diversification, a PwC review of regional trade patterns indicated. The Gulf Times report said the latest talks also touched on strengthening private sector involvement to drive mutual investments beyond traditional commodity flows. Mourad extended an additional invitation for Qatar Chamber to participate fully in the Sao Paulo gathering to help shape outcomes on these shared priorities.
Al-Obaidli praised the longstanding ties and expressed readiness to develop concrete alliances between Qatari and Brazilian firms, according to the publication. Such collaboration could target not only food industries but also emerging opportunities in logistics and technology that align with both sides’ economic visions. The upcoming forum is expected to produce actionable recommendations that translate high-level discussions into measurable gains in bilateral commerce.
