Bank of America detailed the launch of its Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative in a statement released on August 12, 2026. The company said the program will mobilize and deploy $250 billion from 2026 through July 4, 2027, using financing, investment, advisory services and supply chain solutions. The bank noted that the initiative aims to drive development and modernization in key sectors to support economic growth, innovation and competitiveness. This announcement aligns with celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary and follows the bank’s history of large-scale capital deployment.
The bank’s press release identified digital infrastructure including data centers and computing power as a central focus alongside energy and power projects such as renewable generation, energy storage, natural gas, electricity transmission and critical minerals mining. According to the statement these areas address immediate needs for modernization that underpin national competitiveness. Bank of America added that the initiative will help generate tens of thousands of jobs through targeted investments in these fields.
This new program extends Bank of America’s prior sustainable finance efforts, in which the lender mobilized and deployed approximately $250 billion in activity during 2021 as part of a $1.5 trillion goal set for 2030. The company has also established a target to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions in its financing activities, operations and supply chain by 2050. Bank of America reported that the Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative builds directly on capabilities developed through those earlier commitments.
An International Energy Agency assessment found that global electricity demand from data centers grew by 17 percent in 2025 amid expanding artificial intelligence applications. The assessment noted that capital expenditure by major technology companies on related infrastructure exceeded $400 billion that year with further increases expected. Bank of America stated that its financing will target such digital and energy projects to alleviate emerging bottlenecks in power and computing capacity.
A Reuters report on the announcement indicated that the initiative encompasses primary market lending, investments, capital markets services, banking and advisory offerings. The news service added that Bank of America positioned the program as a contribution to broader U.S. infrastructure needs that support technological advancement and energy security. The bank’s statement reiterated that capital deployment will occur over the specified 18-month window to maximize impact during the anniversary period.
The company’s announcement highlighted how the initiative addresses constraints that have surfaced with rapid adoption of data centers and advanced energy systems. Bank of America said the program will emphasize practical solutions across supply chains and project development to deliver measurable outcomes. Further deployment details are expected to emerge as specific opportunities are identified within the targeted sectors.
