A delegation from the Ajman Arbitration Centre attended the Egyptian Arbitration Days held in Cairo from October 12 to 15, according to the Emirates News Agency. Hindi Obaid Al Matrooshi, Secretary General of the Ajman Arbitration Centre, represented the UAE institution at the event, which drew arbitration specialists, academics and policymakers from multiple continents. The gathering provided a platform for discussions on emerging trends in dispute resolution, including enforcement of awards and integration of technology into proceedings.
The Egyptian Arbitration Days, organized by the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration in collaboration with other partners, serves as a multilingual forum spanning Arabic, English and French, a report from the event organizers stated. Panels addressed challenges in commercial arbitration, investment disputes and cross-border conflict management while fostering networking among global practitioners. Al Matrooshi engaged with counterparts to explore best practices that could enhance arbitration frameworks across the Arab world.
A study published by MS-Legal found that arbitration centres across the Middle East and North Africa managed claims worth at least $2.6 billion last year. The report noted average growth rates of 38 percent at established hubs in Dubai and Cairo, with newer institutions in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar recording several hundred percent increases in demand. Such expansion reflects strong momentum in construction, infrastructure and energy sectors that continue to drive arbitration activity.
The Abu Dhabi International Arbitration Centre reported a 67 percent rise in new arbitration filings during the first half of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. Data from the centre placed the total value of disputes submitted for administration at AED 985 million as of June 30, while its overall caseload reached the highest level since operations began in 2024. The International Chamber of Commerce statistics separately positioned the UAE among the top five preferred seats for arbitration, with the country hosting 38 cases in the latest annual tally.
Al Matrooshi affirmed the Ajman Arbitration Centre’s commitment to active participation in specialized conferences and forums in the fields of arbitration and mediation, the Emirates News Agency reported. He highlighted how such engagements enable the adoption of innovative approaches and contribute to harmonizing practices that support trade and investment flows. The centre, which provides commercial conciliation and arbitration services, has participated in similar Arab arbitration events including a conference in Cairo last year focused on legislative advancements and award enforcement.
The Egyptian Arbitration Days edition built on the success of its inaugural program in 2025, which the organizers said reinforced Egypt’s historic role as a bridge for international trade and legal affairs. Sessions included workshops on cross-examination techniques in construction cases, effective case management and the role of women in arbitration. These elements align with broader regional reforms that have modernized arbitration laws in line with the UNCITRAL Model Law and strengthened judicial support for arbitral decisions.
