The Dubai Financial Services Authority unveiled a package of temporary regulatory relief across four areas on April 9 2026 as part of coordinated steps with the DIFC Authority to support firms facing operational challenges from the ongoing regional conflict. These steps include flexibility on licensing and administrative requirements alongside adjustments to governance and staffing arrangements that permit continued remote working where appropriate. The DFSA said the measures would also extend timelines for regulatory reporting and supervisory processes in addition to selected implementation deadlines for regulatory initiatives.

According to the DFSA the relief is designed to be risk-based proportionate and time-limited while being applied according to the nature scale and complexity of individual firms. DFSA chief executive Mark Steward stated that companies in the DIFC have demonstrated great resilience and financial strength. In an announcement Steward added that the DFSA wishes to provide assistance to firms on request as a bridge to the resumption of normal trading and that these measures will ease operational challenges while ensuring high regulatory standards continue to be met.

DIFC Authority chief executive Arif Amiri described the package as reflecting a thoughtful and proactive approach to easing immediate pressures while reinforcing the strength resilience and long-term sustainability of the DIFC ecosystem. Amiri stated that the authorities remain confident in the fundamentals of the community and its ability to emerge stronger which will ensure Dubai continues to advance its position as one of the world’s leading global financial centres. The measures follow Dubai’s approval of a Dh1 billion support package for the business sector that took effect on April 1 according to government statements.

The UAE has faced repeated Iranian attacks that Tehran claims are retaliation for strikes by the United States and Israel on February 28 2026 a sequence that has led to airspace closures and disruptions affecting multiple sectors. Tourism hospitality and aviation have experienced slowdowns since the conflict began with the government maintaining a business-as-usual approach for core operations according to statements from economy officials. Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq said this week that the UAE was preparing a significant support package for the tourism sector as part of broader efforts to address war-related pressures.

The DFSA will continue to monitor the situation and stands ready to introduce additional measures if required Steward noted in the announcement. The relief builds on other UAE-wide actions since March 2026 that have included bank loan deferrals fee reductions and customs adjustments across affected sectors a Gulf News compilation of official releases showed. These coordinated responses aim to shield both businesses and residents from economic disruption stemming from the conflict and related closures in key maritime routes.

The announcements arrive as the DIFC reported record results for 2025 with combined revenues rising 20 per cent to Dh2.13 billion and net profit climbing 28 per cent to Dh1.48 billion according to the centre’s official annual disclosure in February 2026. Active company registrations grew by 39 per cent to 2,525 new entities that year while the total number of active companies reached 8,844 the DIFC figures show. The centre which now houses 1,052 regulated firms and more than 500 wealth and asset management companies plans to double in size by the end of the next decade and reported 30 per cent year-on-year growth in new registrations during the first month of 2026.
