The Qatar Central Bank organised the annual reception for Qatari banks in Bangkok, the authority said in a statement released on its official channels. The event occurred on the sidelines of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, which run from October 12 to 18 in the Thai capital. High-level officials representing relevant international governmental and financial institutions joined the gathering, according to the central bank.

Qatar’s Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari and Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of the Qatar Central Bank, attended the reception, the Qatar Central Bank reported. Several chairmen of boards, executive directors and representatives of the Qatari financial and banking sector also participated. The central bank’s statement noted the presence of these senior domestic figures alongside the international participants.

The reception, which the Qatar Central Bank organises each year, serves as a platform to strengthen communication and exchange views on economic and financial matters, according to the authority. It provides an opportunity for senior officials from Qatari, regional and international banks as well as decision-makers to discuss recent economic developments and prevailing challenges. The bank emphasised that the event facilitates direct dialogue during the major global financial gatherings.

The annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group carry particular significance because they convene government officials and leaders of financial and economic institutions from across the globe, Qatar News Agency reported. Participants address prominent worldwide issues, foremost among them the prospects for the global economy, means of supporting economic development, and the obstacles confronting growth and financial stability. Qatar News Agency noted that the gatherings enable high-level exchanges on these topics.

A parallel reception organised by the Central Bank of the UAE on October 15 drew more than 600 banking leaders, monetary policymakers and fintech pioneers from around the world, according to a statement from that authority. That event also took place on the sidelines of the same IMF and World Bank meetings and included several Qatari officials among its international guests. The Qatar Central Bank statement described its own reception as part of the broader engagement by Gulf institutions in these forums.
