The Ministry of Commerce placed the total value of China’s service imports and exports at 4.44671 trillion yuan from January to July. This marked an 8.3 percent increase from the prior year, supported by service exports that climbed 17.1 percent to 1.77323 trillion yuan while imports advanced 3.2 percent to 2.67348 trillion yuan. The ministry’s assessment found the services trade deficit narrowed by 176.33 billion yuan to 900.25 billion yuan over the period.
Travel and transport services accounted for more than half of services export growth during the seven months, according to a Ministry of Commerce breakdown. The ministry’s figures show travel service exports rising 27.7 percent to 263.61 billion yuan and contributing 22.1 percent to the overall export expansion. Transport service exports grew 27.1 percent to 363.23 billion yuan, adding a 29.9 percent contribution to the total advance.
Knowledge-intensive services maintained a substantial share of activity, the Ministry of Commerce data indicated. Trade in the category reached 1.96062 trillion yuan, up 6.6 percent and equivalent to 44.1 percent of all services trade. Exports within knowledge-intensive services increased 12.2 percent to 948.28 billion yuan, representing 53.5 percent of the services export total.
Earlier releases from the Ministry of Commerce showed services trade at nearly 3.78 trillion yuan for the first half of 2026, equally up 8.3 percent year on year. Travel service exports stood at 229.2 billion yuan in that period with 31.1 percent growth while transport service imports advanced 30.4 percent to 498.1 billion yuan. The ministry reported that knowledge-intensive services accounted for 44 percent of the first-half total.
The National Immigration Administration separately placed the number of inbound foreigners at 22.914 million in the first six months, a 20.4 percent rise that aligned with travel service momentum. First-quarter data from the Ministry of Commerce had already signaled an upturn, with overall services trade at 1.8 trillion yuan and travel exports jumping 32.3 percent. Subsequent monthly updates through July sustained the expansion trajectory.
Ministry of Commerce statistics for the first four months had recorded 4.9 percent growth to 2.49 trillion yuan, with travel exports up 30.4 percent. The progressive acceleration in export categories through the seven-month mark reflects continued recovery across key segments. The latest release on September 3 provided the cumulative view of these developments.
