The Emirates News Agency reported that Etihad Credit Insurance, known as ECI, and Euler Hermes have established a partnership aimed at supporting international trade and large-scale developments. The agreement paves the way for negotiations on a reinsurance deal that would enable systematic sharing of credit risks in transactions featuring companies from both countries. Mohammed Tahlak, director of corporate support at ECI, signed the document with Jan-Philipp Apking and Thomas Baum, who serve as members of Euler Hermes executive management.
Euler Hermes operates as the manager of Germany’s official Export Credit Guarantee Scheme on behalf of the federal government, according to a Gulf News assessment. This latest MoU builds directly on an ad-hoc reinsurance arrangement that the two agencies implemented in 2024 for a significant infrastructure initiative in Iraq. The prior collaboration provided a practical model for coordinating support involving Emirati and German suppliers on overseas contracts.
Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre figures show the UAE’s non-oil foreign trade surpassed AED 3.8 trillion in 2025, reflecting a 27 percent increase from the previous year. Non-oil exports within that total climbed to AED 813 billion, achieving 45.5 percent growth and highlighting the expanding role of export facilitation tools. Such instruments have become increasingly relevant as UAE businesses pursue opportunities across global markets.
In the first half of 2026, non-oil exports advanced 23.9 percent year on year to reach AED 452.8 billion, according to statements from UAE authorities. Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements with 14 countries contributed AED 175.5 billion in exports during 2025, representing 21.6 percent of the global total for those flows. The new risk-sharing framework with Euler Hermes could further ease participation in complex cross-border infrastructure ventures.
Germany’s export credit guarantees supported projects valued at approximately €1.4 billion in the Gulf region during 2025, nearly double the volume recorded a year earlier, Gulf News data indicates. Discussions under the fresh MoU will now concentrate on finalizing a comprehensive reinsurance agreement to institutionalize this cooperation. The arrangement aligns with sustained growth in bilateral economic activity between the UAE and Germany.
ECI maintains a mandate to insure UAE exporters against non-payment and related commercial risks in overseas markets. The partnership with Euler Hermes complements ongoing national efforts to diversify trade relationships and reinforce non-oil sectors. This development follows a pattern of enhanced coordination among export credit agencies to address rising demand for infrastructure financing across the region.
