EMSTEEL has supplied high-performance rebar for the Etihad Rail network. The company said its ES600 grade products are suited to the demands of railway construction in the UAE. This input helps ensure structural integrity for tracks and related facilities across the project. The steel producer has played a consistent role in such major builds.
WAM reported the details surrounding EMSTEEL’s contribution to the national railway. The firm has additionally signed a commercial agreement with Hafeet Rail to transport its output via the new lines. This allows for integrated use of the infrastructure it helped create.
Etihad Rail was established in June 2009. It serves as both developer and operator of the UAE national railway. Operator data places expected annual cargo volume at 50 million tons with 16 million passengers once the full network is active. The system aims to link industrial areas with ports and population centers.
The railway megaproject carries an $11 billion price tag, Engineering News-Record reported. Progress Rail supplied 38 locomotives specially designed for Gulf conditions. These units feature advanced signalling and safety systems for reliable operation. The initial freight services have been running since 2019.
Etihad Rail said the network will contribute to a 21 percent reduction in CO2 emissions from land transportation. The operator stated this forms part of broader sustainability efforts in the transport sector. The figure comes from project evaluations conducted by the rail authority.
Hafeet Rail connects the UAE and Oman rail systems. The agreement with EMSTEEL facilitates movement of iron and steel products between the two countries. Such links are set to expand regional trade and logistics options.
