The Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi participated in World Water Week 2026 in Stockholm, leveraging the emirate’s experience to foster international partnerships aimed at building resilience in water and energy systems, according to an official post on X. The department highlighted its role in ongoing global dialogues that address shared challenges through knowledge exchange and collaborative solutions. Officials emphasized the importance of turning innovative ideas into practical impacts that benefit communities worldwide.
H.E. Dr. Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi, addressed attendees during a UAE Stakeholder Reception hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Al Jarwan stated that water security is built through partnerships and innovation rather than solely depending on natural resources. He invited international stakeholders to bring their challenges and solutions to Abu Dhabi for the upcoming 2026 United Nations Water Conference and Abu Dhabi Water and Power Week.
The department’s participation builds on the launch of the Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Resilience Framework earlier in 2026, the department reported. A Media Office release indicated the framework is built around three pillars including infrastructure, human capital and governance, as well as technology and innovation. It outlines 15 strategic measures focused on supply security, emergency preparedness and resource diversification to enhance system reliability.
Discussions at the event also aligned with preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 10, according to the conference website. The gathering will focus on implementing Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation. Abu Dhabi Water and Power Week will serve as a key platform within the conference for exploring technologies and policies.
A recent official visit by a DoE delegation to the United States sought to expand partnerships around the resilience framework, Gulf News reported on August 22. The trip, led by Al Jarwan, explored technologies such as quantum computing for water efficiency and artificial intelligence applications in sector management. Participants were invited to engage in the Abu Dhabi events as strategic partners.
The framework supports the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 by aiming to reduce network water losses by 40 percent by 2035 and improve demand efficiency by 32 percent by 2030, the department has previously stated. These targets form part of a broader push toward sustainable resource management amid growing demands. Integration of advanced technologies remains central to achieving these objectives across the water sector.
