The Sharjah Economic Development Department reported a total of 38,169 issued and renewed licences across the first six months of 2026. This volume encompassed new commercial registrations along with routine renewals that allow businesses to maintain legal operations in the emirate. SEDD data highlighted steady activity levels that align with the authority’s push to simplify procedures for investors through digital platforms.
According to SEDD figures, the first quarter delivered 18,921 licences overall, marking a 1 percent rise from 18,768 in the same quarter of 2025. Newly issued licences climbed 36 percent to 2,991 during those three months while renewals stood at 15,930. The remaining transactions in the second quarter brought the cumulative first-half total to 38,169.
A regional media report indicated that Sharjah introduced a package of business relief measures effective from June 16, 2026. The Executive Council-approved initiative offers 50 percent discounts on issuance and renewal fees for micro-businesses and selected industrial licences in food and pharmaceutical sectors. Exemptions from late-renewal fines formed another element of the three-month programme designed to ease operational costs.
The department has rolled out an instant industrial licence priced at Dh1,000 to accelerate market entry for qualifying manufacturers, official announcements stated. A business setup analysis attributed a 25 percent increase in new Sharjah licences compared with 2023 to cumulative reforms that lowered barriers for entrepreneurs. These policies have helped reinforce the emirate’s position within the broader UAE marketplace.
UAE Ministry of Economy data from 2024 placed the nationwide total of active business licences above 700,000. Sharjah has expanded its share of that activity by expanding e-services and physical support centres that process applications more efficiently. The first-half 2026 licensing numbers reflect continued interest from both established firms and new entrants seeking to operate in the northern emirate.
The SEDD maintains an array of more than 100 tailored government services for entrepreneurs through its website and branch network. Applicants can obtain licensing forms and complete renewals via e-services or designated Tasheel centres to minimise processing delays. This service framework directly supported the transaction volume achieved in the first half of the year.
