Qatar News Agency reported that Yousef El Maraghi, head of private banking at Qatar International Islamic Bank, collected the Best Islamic Wholesale Banking Solutions Award on the bank’s behalf at the 16th Annual GIFA Awards Ceremony in London. The GIFA judging panel chose QIIB after a detailed review that weighed the bank’s institutional performance, the quality of its corporate financing portfolio and the efficiency of services offered to business clients. The assessment also incorporated the bank’s financial strength, its record of innovation and its agility in adjusting to shifting market conditions.

QIIB said in a statement that the award recognises its operational excellence and sustained leadership in crafting integrated banking solutions for corporate customers. “This recognition reaffirms QIIB’s standing as a leading Islamic bank and reflects the success of our comprehensive strategy and ambitious vision. This achievement is the result of years of sustained effort, supported by the unwavering commitment to the banking sector in Qatar. At QIIB, we have sought to build on this support by investing in our technological infrastructure, embracing advanced digital solutions and developing tailored financing products and banking services that meet the diverse needs of businesses of all sizes- from large corporations to SMEs,” Yousef El Maraghi said in the statement. The bank added that the honour highlights its ability to address evolving corporate client requirements while observing the highest international standards.

The Global Islamic Finance Awards, founded in 2011 by Edbiz Corporation, have grown into one of the industry’s most respected honours for excellence in Islamic banking and finance, according to the programme’s official records. Organisers stage the event each year in a different location to spotlight contributions that advance Sharia-compliant finance, social responsibility and sector sustainability on a global scale. Past laureates have included heads of government and leading institutions from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

QIIB reported total assets of QR63.8 billion at the end of the first half of 2026, a 1.9 percent rise from December 2025, in financial statements released in July. Net profit for the six-month period reached QR713 million, while financing assets expanded 5 percent to QR44.1 billion and the non-performing financing ratio held at 2.5 percent. The bank’s capital adequacy ratio stood at 21.4 percent, well above regulatory minimums set by the Qatar Central Bank and Basel standards.

This award forms part of a series of international recognitions QIIB has secured in 2026, including honours for sustainable Islamic finance and digital banking services from other industry evaluators, the bank noted in separate announcements. The lender has made wholesale and corporate banking a core element of its growth plan, focusing on customised Sharia-compliant products that serve enterprises across size segments. Recent financial disclosures show customer deposits at QR43.1 billion at mid-year, supporting continued expansion in corporate lending activities.

The London gathering drew senior executives from Islamic financial institutions and international banking organisations to review developments in the sector. GIFA maintains strict criteria that balance financial performance with adherence to Islamic principles and contributions to economic development. QIIB’s selection places the Qatari lender among institutions singled out for strong results in wholesale Islamic banking during the 2026 cycle.
