The agreement focuses on supporting QIIB’s payments growth agenda with an emphasis on data-led portfolio management, targeted customer campaigns, cross-sell and spend migration initiatives plus sales enablement programmes, according to details released by the bank. It also encompasses exploration of advanced consumer engagement tools, customer acquisition support and next-generation portfolio optimisation to improve relevance, usage and long-term value creation for cardholders. The pact aligns with broader efforts to bolster Qatar’s digital payments ecosystem.

Jamal al-Jamal, QIIB deputy chief executive officer, signed the agreement with Luca Bianconi, Visa vice president and country manager for Qatar, the bank said in an announcement. The signing took place in the presence of QIIB chief executive officer Dr Abdulbasit Ahmed al-Shaibei and Fadi Moukaddem, Visa senior vice president and group country manager. This latest tie-up builds on earlier 2025 partnerships between the two that introduced biometric Click to Pay services and other card enhancements, QIIB press releases from that period show.

Al-Jamal described the collaboration as a milestone in delivering innovative solutions that meet customer aspirations while harnessing global technology. He stated that the bank is witnessing qualitative leaps in its technological upgrades through its digital transformation strategy, with data analytics and customer experience solidifying its leadership position in Qatar’s banking sector. The deputy CEO added that Visa Consulting and Analytics will provide insights enabling tailored products, operational efficiency, innovation and growth in digital payments in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Bianconi said the partnership reflected Visa’s commitment to supporting client growth through data, insights and innovation. He noted that the collaboration would enhance customer engagement, create value and accelerate digital payments adoption across Qatar by combining QIIB’s understanding of its customers with Visa’s global expertise in payments. The Visa executive emphasised the aim of delivering relevant and seamless payment experiences.

QIIB, one of Qatar’s leading Islamic banks, has increasingly focused on digital channels to serve its retail and corporate clients amid rising demand for contactless and online transactions. Visa, a global payments technology company, maintains multiple agreements across the Gulf to expand digital infrastructure and analytics capabilities in the region, according to its own regional updates. The current initiative seeks to leverage these strengths for measurable improvements in card activation and spending patterns.

The partnership arrives as Qatar continues infrastructure development and economic diversification that incorporate expanded fintech adoption, the bank noted in its release. Executives from both organisations expressed confidence that the data-driven approach would yield sustained benefits for customers and contribute to a more robust national payments framework over the coming years.
