The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority has completed a lighting project for the Al Ghareefa Al Yadeya residential area in Al Madam city, including the road leading to the area, as part of its ongoing work to illuminate towns and communities across the Central Region, according to a WAM report. The project included the installation of 90 lighting poles and 94 energy-efficient lamps as well as the laying of 5,000 metres of cables. SEWA finished the work in no more than four days while observing the highest technical standards.
According to the authority, this forms part of 16 lighting projects implemented in the Central Region under an infrastructure package valued at AED 92.171 million that also covered Shaabiyat and various other regions. Engineer Khalifa Mohammed Al Tunaiji said, “SEWA is committed to providing high-quality services and implementing lighting projects across different areas to ensure safety and security, while also enhancing the urban and aesthetic appearance.” Al Tunaiji made the remarks in connection with the latest completions in the area.
A MEP Middle East assessment from 2021 found that SEWA had implemented 14 lighting projects in the Central Region during the first half of that year, installing 2,865 lighting poles at a cost of more than AED 23.145 million while laying 133,600 kilometres of cables. The authority’s 2023 plan saw initial work on projects such as the Al Hosn lighting scheme in Al Dhaid, where 52 poles and 52 searchlights were installed along with cable extensions, Sharjah24 reported at the time. By April 2025 SEWA had completed six lighting projects in the central region, according to an update from the same outlet.
A utilities-me.com report from May 2021 indicated that SEWA delivered services to 12 projects in the Central Region and completed maintenance on 294 lighting poles in locations including Al-Madam, Fali, Al Dhaid and Taibah. Recent installations have featured energy-efficient LED floodlights as standard equipment. The authority has maintained a steady pace of such work to cover additional residential zones.
Construction Week Online reported in 2022 that SEWA wrapped up 35 road and lighting projects during 2021 as it expanded its network of poles, cables, lighting boxes and related units. These cumulative efforts have focused on both new builds and upgrades across the Central Region. SEWA continues to schedule further phases under its annual infrastructure programmes.
