Data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute on August 28 showed Türkiye’s economic confidence index rising 0.8 percent in August to 100.6, the first time the measure has exceeded the key 100-point threshold in six months. The index stood at 99.8 in July, according to TurkStat, and a reading above 100 signals an optimistic outlook for the overall economy while a lower figure indicates pessimism. The latest advance marks the fourth consecutive monthly gain and brings the composite gauge to its highest level of the year.

Gains in consumer and manufacturing confidence primarily drove the improvement, TurkStat figures show. Consumer confidence increased 1 percent from the previous month to reach 90.8 while the real sector confidence index for the manufacturing industry advanced 1.2 percent to 102.4. These two components more than compensated for modest retreats elsewhere and lifted the headline number into optimistic territory.

Confidence eased slightly in the services, retail trade and construction sectors during the month, according to the statistical office. The services confidence index slipped 0.1 percent to 111.9 and retail trade confidence declined 0.8 percent to 110.1, although both remained well above the 100 mark. Construction confidence fell 0.4 percent to 83.1 and stayed the weakest of the five sub-indices tracked by TurkStat.

The August outcome represents a recovery from earlier weakness in 2026 when the index dropped as low as 96.4 in April before beginning a steady climb, TurkStat monthly releases indicate. It last stood above 100 in February at 100.7 and has now returned to positive territory after fluctuating below the threshold for much of the first half of the year. The index combines consumer views with business assessments across major economic sectors on a zero-to-200 scale.

TurkStat calculates the economic confidence index from separate surveys of households and firms in manufacturing, services, retail and construction. A Trading Economics assessment projects the gauge to trend around 103.5 points in 2027 and 104.2 points in 2028 based on its econometric models. The institute adjusts most sub-indices for seasonal effects while the consumer component is reported without such smoothing.

August data arrives amid ongoing monitoring of Türkiye’s economic trajectory by domestic and international observers who view the confidence measure as an early signal of potential shifts in activity. The index averaged lower levels in the same month of prior years, standing at 97.7 in August 2025 according to the same statistical series. TurkStat releases the figures monthly to provide a timely snapshot of sentiment across the economy.
