QNB Group said in a statement published on the Qatar Stock Exchange website that it successfully completed its second Qatari riyal-denominated Shogun bond issuance, raising 750 million riyals from a diversified base of Japanese investors. The three-year transaction represents the largest QAR-denominated Shogun bond issuance to date. Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation arranged the deal following the group’s inaugural QAR Shogun issuance in the first quarter of 2025 that raised 500 million riyals, according to a report by The Peninsula.
The statement indicated that the issuance forms part of the group’s strategy to diversify its funding sources and broaden access to the Japanese investor market. A Shogun bond is issued in Japan by a foreign borrower and is denominated in a currency other than the Japanese yen, an AGBI report explained. The first such bond was issued in 1985 by the World Bank.
QNB Group is the number one bank in the Middle East and Africa across all balance sheet metrics with assets of $395 billion as of June 2026, its investor presentation showed. The group recorded net profit of 13.3 billion riyals for the nine months ended September 2026, a 4 percent increase from the prior year, according to its earnings release. The bank’s capital adequacy ratio stood at 19.7 percent with non-performing loans at 2.7 percent of gross loans.
Shares in QNB closed 0.3 percent higher at QR18.61 on the day of the announcement, AGBI data showed. The stock is down more than 16 percent for the year to date. In January 2026 QNB completed a 1 billion riyal local bond issuance that its statement then described as the largest riyal-denominated bond by a financial institution in Qatar’s domestic capital markets.
QNB Group operates in 28 countries and reported total assets of 1.464 trillion riyals as of September 30, 2026, according to its financial statements. Customer deposits reached 979 billion riyals at the same date. The Shogun bond adds to the bank’s series of debt market operations that have targeted both local and international investors.
