Bilateral economic links have deepened considerably over the past decade and now encompass substantial energy trade alongside growing investments. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs data shows that total commerce between the countries stood at 798 million euros in 2024, with Spanish exports valued at 306 million euros and imports, largely energy products, reaching 498 million euros. These figures underscore the strategic importance of energy ties, as Qatar has served as one of Spain’s leading suppliers of liquefied natural gas since the early 2010s.
The Qatar Investment Authority has directed major capital into Spanish projects, including a five-billion-dollar commitment announced in 2022 that targets technology and environmental sectors. Earlier trade reviews indicate that bilateral turnover exceeded one billion euros in 2017 after a 37-percent rise from the prior year.
