The Ministry of Finance announced that Engineer Noura Suleiman Al-Fassam met with Dr Rania Al-Mashat Egypt’s Minister of Planning Economic Development and International Cooperation as well as the president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank on the sidelines of the joint annual meetings of Arab financial institutions hosted in Kuwait. Discussions centred on ways to boost joint cooperation in planning economic development and international partnerships while addressing regional and global economic challenges. According to the ministry the talks also reviewed progress in bilateral work streams that align with both countries’ reform priorities.
Al-Mashat praised the deep bilateral relations between Egypt and Kuwait during the meeting describing Kuwait as one of Egypt’s most prominent economic partners in the Middle East. The Egyptian minister highlighted joint efforts in economy culture education and other fields pointing to the outcomes of the 13th session of the joint Egyptian-Kuwaiti committee held in Cairo the previous September where an executive programme for scientific and technical cooperation was signed. A statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Planning Economic Development and International Cooperation noted that these protocols help coordinate policies across multiple institutions in both countries.
Kuwait’s membership in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank which took effect through Decree No 66 of 2025 positions the country as the 111th member of the multilateral lender according to a Kuwait Times report on the bank’s 10th annual meeting in Beijing in June 2025. The bank focuses on sustainable infrastructure energy and digital connectivity projects that could support shared priorities with Egypt. Saad Al-Rasheedi director of the Department of International Economic Cooperation represented Kuwait at that Beijing gathering where the accession was formalised.
The meetings come as Kuwait advances its economic reform agenda including the enactment of Law No 60 on Liquidity and Public Debt in March 2025 that sets a KD30 billion ceiling and allows sovereign instruments with maturities of up to 50 years. Finance Minister Al-Fassam described the law as a key element for building a diversified sustainable economy when she spoke to KUNA at the time of its passage. Such measures are expected to expand access to international capital including through institutions like the AIIB.
Bilateral trade and investment ties have grown steadily with both sides emphasising the removal of obstacles to Kuwaiti investments in Egypt as outlined in earlier discussions between the two governments. The Egyptian side stressed support for industrial development entrepreneurship macroeconomic stability and green transition through structural reforms built on competitiveness business environment improvements and resilience. These priorities were reiterated in the April 2025 talks as avenues for deeper collaboration.
Al-Mashat affirmed the importance of the joint Egyptian-Kuwaiti committee in achieving maximum coordination adding that the two countries maintain numerous cooperation protocols across institutions. The April gathering in Kuwait built on Sisi’s state visit to Kuwait earlier in 2025 where similar themes of trade investment and regional stability were addressed. Officials from both delegations expressed commitment to translating these discussions into concrete projects that benefit their economies and populations.
