Forbes partnered with Statista to produce the World’s Top Performing Banks 2026, an inaugural ranking that evaluated lenders based on four dimensions including profitability, growth and earnings quality, capital and funding resilience, and asset quality and efficiency. The list divided banks into six tiers by asset size with the upper mid-size category covering those holding between $50 billion and $100 billion. Qatar Islamic Bank achieved third position in that group according to the published results.

The assessment required participating banks to maintain more than $3 billion in assets, publish audited financial statements for at least three consecutive years and report under reconcilable national accounting standards, Forbes stated in its June 2026 request for information. Data sources included S&P Capital IQ, desk research and voluntary bank submissions with the verification period closing in early July. A summary of the outcomes noted that Saudi Arabia’s Alinma Bank ranked first in the upper mid-size tier followed by Arab National Bank in second place.

Qatar Islamic Bank reported total assets of $60.7 billion as of December 2025 according to Forbes Middle East data, situating it squarely in the upper mid-size segment. The institution founded in 1982 operates as the largest Islamic bank in Qatar with 42 percent of the local Islamic banking sector and approximately 12 percent of the overall domestic banking market, its company profile shows. It maintains 22 branches in Qatar along with one in Sudan.

Forbes lists identified Qatar Islamic Bank among Qatar’s most valuable listed companies with a market value of $16.2 billion in early 2026 placing it third in the country behind QNB Group and Industries Qatar. Qatar Holding, the investment arm of the Qatar Investment Authority, holds the largest stake at 16.7 percent. Group Chief Executive Officer Bassel Gamal earned a spot on Forbes Middle East’s Top 100 CEOs list for 2026.

The Forbes ranking placed Singapore’s OCBC Bank and DBS Group at the top of the global banks tier for institutions exceeding $500 billion in assets. The new performance-based list differs from the publication’s separate World’s Best Banks survey that draws on responses from more than 54,000 customers across 34 countries. In total the 2026 performance ranking included banks from 89 countries.

Qatar Islamic Bank has appeared in multiple editions of the Forbes Global 2000 ranking of the world’s largest companies. Forbes company data from 2025 placed its revenue at $2.4 billion with profits of $1.3 billion and assets of $58.1 billion. The bank engages in corporate banking, personal banking, group functions and local and international subsidiaries.
